LOW NOISE WORK HORSE

Series: FD5-A

Low torque fan drives, when tuned correctly to match the torque of the fan, dramatically reduce fan noise. By limiting the fan speed to the minimum required level, the fan drive will add considerable value over a fixed fan with no speed control. This low noise effect is carried through the range, as the size of your application and its fan increases, so does the benefit of a fan drive.

Air sensing fan drives allow smooth increases in fan speed that are direclty related to the heat exchanger temperature. They react in real time to actual changes in temperature, once set up correctly they require no maintenance or adjustment. A truly robust and reliable cooling solution where variable fan speed is required.

FLOW FOR STATIONARY APPLICATIONS

Total control of the fan speed is possible with air sensing technology, even in stationary or slow moving applications. The disengaged fan speed or low fan speeds is set to draw as little power from the system as possible, but maintain sufficient flow through the heat exchanger and therefore the all important temperature of that flow on the sensing element or Bi-Metal.

PRECISE CONTROL

Limiting top end fan speed is the key to reducing fan noise. Precise fan speed control not only enables reduced fan noise but also allows engineers to maintain a tight tolerance on engine temperature, enabling high efficiency. This is made possible through the system integration of the fan drive and subsequent control of fan speed or “required cooling” via the engine management.

PREDICTIVE COOLING

Once fan speed control is not linked to air temperature and working retrospectively or reactively, new predictive cooling methodologies are opened up to cooling systems engineers. Why wait to slowly increase the much needed fan speed when the retarder is used, instead the system can increase fan speed moderately in anticipation for the additional heat rejection.

Almost all vehicle systems have multiple heat exchangers, each has its own optimum temperature and flow requirements. Accommodating more complex systems with an air sensing fan drive can lead to compromises in fan speed. Complex systems are where electronically controlled Viscous Drives give you more design choices, cooling strategies and diagnostic capabilities.
